Konstantinos Laimоdetis, a 27-year-old firefighter, was laid to rest with full honors at the Church of Saint Constantine in Agrinio on Saturday, after dying in the line of duty while battling the wildfire in Gythio. Hundreds gathered for the funeral, including family members, friends, fellow firefighters, local officials, and state representatives, all paying their last respects to the young serviceman. The ceremony was held in deep grief, with his colleagues from the Fire Service forming a guard of honor for their fallen comrade. Laimоdetis was one of three firefighters killed fighting wildfires in Greece over the past several days. Two other firefighters lost their lives battling a separate blaze at Kria Vrysi in Rethymno, Crete, bringing the total death toll among fire crews to three. The back-to-back losses have put a heavy shadow over Greece's fire service during what has been one of the most intense wildfire seasons in recent years. Firefighters are currently working around the clock across multiple active fronts as summer heat drives conditions. #Greece #Wildfires #Firefighters
