Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan issued a direct military threat against Greece on Sunday, warning that if Athens makes what he called "reckless moves," the power of the Turkish state is "known to everyone." Fidan said both the Turkish Armed Forces and the Coast Guard Command are in an "extremely sensitive state" regarding the current situation in the Aegean. He expressed hope that Greece would not take any provocative action, but left no ambiguity about what would follow if it did. On the question of the Greek islands, Fidan repeated Ankara's long-standing position that it does not accept the militarization of islands it considers demilitarized under treaty obligations.
