Anna-Maria and Irini Alexandri swept the duet events at the 38th European Aquatics Championships in Paris on Saturday, winning gold in both the technical and free duet programs on the same day. The free duet final came down to fractions of a point. The Alexandri sisters scored 316.3315 points, edging out Spain's Lilou Lluís Valette and Iris Tió Casas, who finished just 0.6873 points behind with 315.6442. The bronze went to Russia's Maia Doroschko and Alexandra Schmit, competing as neutrals, with 310.4407. The sisters previously pulled off the same double gold at the 2023 European Games, but they were representing Austria at the time. Saturday's victory came under the Greek flag, and it doubles Greece's all-time gold medal tally at the European Aquatics Championships. Until this year, Greece's only previous European Championship gold came in Belgrade in 2024, in the free team event. The mixed duet final was even tighter. Great Britain's Isabelle Thorpe and Ranveer Tomblin took gold with 258.2383 points, beating Spain's Denis Gonzalez and Iris Tió Casas by just 0.265 points for the closest result of the night. Greece returns to competition on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., when the team enters the free team preliminary round.
