Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulidis delivered a direct message to Erdogan from the floor of the UN General Assembly, declaring that the partition of Cyprus will never be accepted. Speaking at the 81st session in New York, Christodoulidis called out what he described as "maximum hypocrisy" from Turkey, which invokes international law and territorial integrity while doing the exact opposite in Cyprus. Responding to Erdogan's own speech touching on sovereignty and the UN Charter, Christodoulidis fired back with a pointed line: "Mr. Erdogan, if you wish to invoke the UN Charter, you must first apply it." He reaffirmed that a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality remains the only framework for a settlement, and that he is ready to resume negotiations from where they broke off in 2017. Christodoulidis marked 52 years since what he called the illegal Turkish invasion of Cyprus, and pointed to Varosha as a continuing symbol of Turkey's defiance of UN Security Council resolutions. The sealed-off ghost city remains occupied, with Turkey showing no signs of compliance despite repeated international demands. The Cypriot president also addressed Turkish Cypriots directly, urging them to view a shared future as an opportunity for prosperity rather than division. "Partition cannot and will not be the future of my homeland and my people," he said.
