Christopher Nolan's upcoming film "Odyssey" has already shattered UK presale records before its July 16 release, outpacing two of the biggest blockbusters of recent years on day-one advance ticket sales.
First-day presale revenue at UK venues surpassed both Dune: Part Two, which pulled in 366,000 pounds in its first 24 hours of presales, and Oppenheimer, which collected 254,000 pounds in the same window. Nolan broke his own benchmark before the film has screened a single frame publicly.
The film follows Odysseus across his ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. Cyclopes, sea monsters, and the sorceress Circe all feature, with the production using minimal CGI and leaning heavily on practical filmmaking. It is the first feature film ever shot entirely on IMAX cameras, a scale the production team describes as extraordinary.
Matt Damon plays Odysseus. Zendaya takes on the role of the goddess Athena, and Tom Holland plays Telemachus, Odysseus's son. The cast positions this as one of the most star-heavy epics in years, built around one of the oldest stories in Western literature.
The film hits theaters on July 16.
