A 64-year-old entrepreneur from Messinia has built one of Greece's most internationally active software companies, and it just hit a record market capitalization of 250 million euros.
Anastasios Stassinopoulos founded Profile Systems in the early 1990s, before he turned 30, focusing from the start on specialized business software for the financial sector. He caught the banking boom of the 2000s early, then listed on the Athens Stock Exchange in 2003 to fund expansion abroad, a decision that proved critical when the Greek economic crisis hit the following decade.
Today, Profile operates in more than 50 countries, with a significant portion of its revenue coming entirely from international markets. The Scandinavian market has become a particularly strong profit center for the company, according to Naftemporiki.
Stassinopoulos has been pushing into the UK, France, Cyprus, and the Middle East through targeted acquisitions designed to deepen the company's foothold in each region. The stock is currently trading around the 10-euro level, territory the company has not seen before.
Three things are happening at once right now. Profile is set to release its first-half financial results, which analysts expect could show another year of double-digit growth. The company also cut the entitlement for a capital return of 0.24 euros per share, with payment due September 22. And on September 28, Stassinopoulos will present ProfileOne, the company's new artificial intelligence platform, at an international exhibition in Miami.
A software company founded in regional Greece, surviving a decade-long economic crisis, and now preparing to showcase an AI platform in Miami is a story that does not happen often.
