Chalcis Shipyard is building a new Panamax-class drydock, expanding its capacity to handle larger vessels and higher workloads at one of the Eastern Mediterranean's busiest repair yards. The investment was the centerpiece of the shipyard's presence at Posidonia 2026, the major international shipping exhibition, where the booth drew significant interest from Greek and international maritime companies.
Shipowners, technical directors, and shipping executives visited the stand to learn about the yard's capabilities and the new drydock's potential. Several companies expressed interest in future partnerships and drydocking schedules, according to coverage by Naftemporiki.
The new Panamax dock will expand on the yard's existing floating docks, which currently handle vessels up to 62,000 DWT in the supramax category. The shipyard's berths can also support vessels up to Aframax class, covering a broad range of mid-to-large commercial ships.
Discussions at Posidonia centered on three areas: the increased capacity the new dock brings, the yard's technical track record on large-scale projects, and the experience of its workforce. The combination of the existing infrastructure with the incoming Panamax dock positions Chalcis to serve a wider range of clients across the region.
Management has also committed to full compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 27001 standards, alongside targeted steps to reduce the yard's carbon footprint. Technical teams are already being strengthened in preparation for the new dock's integration.
Chalcis Shipyard is positioning itself as one of the most technically complete ship repair centers in the Eastern Mediterranean, with the Panamax investment its most significant infrastructure move in recent years.
