Greece's South Aegean region is running a 24-hour video display at "The Cube" in Times Square, showcasing its islands to one of the most heavily trafficked public spaces on earth. The campaign runs from June 13 to July 10, putting the region in front of millions of New York residents, tourists, and international visitors daily.
The timing is deliberate. New York and New Jersey are hosting key FIFA World Cup matches right now, drawing massive global audiences of fans, media, and travelers to the area, giving the promotion far more reach than a typical advertising slot would generate.
South Aegean Regional Governor Giorgos Hatzimarkos called the initiative a milestone for regional outreach, describing the symbolic distance traveled "from the Aegean to the heart of the world." Regional authorities are framing the Times Square projection as a strategic investment rather than a symbolic gesture, with the goal of reinforcing Greece's island brand in one of its most competitive tourism markets.
The South Aegean covers some of Greece's most visited island clusters, including the Cyclades and the Dodecanese. The region has been pushing to expand its visibility in key international markets as global competition for travelers intensifies during the post-pandemic tourism boom.
The campaign is part of a broader effort by the South Aegean to position itself not just as a summer destination but as a year-round global brand competing directly with the Mediterranean's biggest draws.
