The Afghan migrant convicted of murdering British aid worker Elisabeth Jane Ross and stuffing her body in a suitcase has been beaten by fellow inmates at Greece's Korydallos Prison, according to a custodial source. Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, was transferred to Korydallos in August after his arrest. Prisoners quickly branded him a "lady killer" and carried out what the source described as a "fierce attack" shortly after his arrival, leaving him badly injured and requiring treatment in the prison infirmary. Ross, 38, was from Edinburgh and had traveled to Athens to volunteer with NGOs serving refugees, homeless people, and other vulnerable groups, including Afghans and Iranians. She was working with a Christian organization when her body was discovered inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens on July 18. Ahmadzai arrived in Greece through the island of Lesvos in 2016. He later claimed to have converted to Christianity and married an American citizen, Alaina Hall, in 2023. The couple had set up a ministry in Athens aimed at helping refugees, according to reports. Ross had dedicated her time in Athens to helping the very community Ahmadzai belonged to. Investigators found her remains after a search traced back to Ahmadzai, who was subsequently arrested and charged with her murder. Korydallos, located on the outskirts of Athens, is Greece's largest and most notorious prison facility.
