Anna-Maria and Eirini-Marina Alexandri won the European Championship duet title in artistic swimming on Friday, scoring 311.4308 points to claim gold for Greece. It is the first time Greece has ever won a European Championship in the duet discipline, and only the second artistic swimming medal the country has taken at this level overall. What makes the win even more striking is the journey behind it. The sisters spent 14 years competing for Austria before returning to represent Greece, and their comeback with the Greek flag has now produced a European title. They performed their routine to Swan Lake, leaving no room for any other nation to challenge them at the top of the podium. Russia's neutral athletes Maya Dorosko and Elizaveta Minaeva took silver with 302.9950 points, while Great Britain's Kate Shortman and Izabel Thorpe claimed bronze with 297.9108 points. This is the fourth European Championship title of the sisters' careers, but the first won under the Greek flag. The previous Greek medal at this level came two years ago in Belgrade, where the national team won the group free routine event. Worth noting is that Anna-Maria and Eirini-Marina are triplets.
