The recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Maliotis Cultural Center and Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies is a testament to our shared commitment to the advancement and dissemination of Hellenic studies, the Greek language and culture, and meaningful public engagement with the Hellenic world in both its historical and contemporary dimensions.
The first outcome of this important collaboration will be the upcoming event on Thursday, October 15, titled “Living with Planetary Boundaries.”
This program marks the beginning of a series of initiatives that will bring together scholarship, cultural dialogue, and public engagement, further strengthening the connection between the Maliotis Cultural Center and Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies.

Humanity has, in many ways, fallen short of living in balance with the natural world. This shortcoming suggests that policies and technologies alone may not be enough, and that we may also need a broader spiritual rethinking. How can life continue to flourish within planetary boundaries? And to what extent does this challenge require a broader transformation in our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world?
As President and co-Founder of the World Human Forum, Alexandra Mitsotaki has long worked to develop and promote a new paradigm for addressing the challenges facing humanity and the living world.
Fr. John Chryssavgis, Professor of Theology, and Executive Director of the Huffington Ecumenical Institute, has been a longtime adviser to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on environmental issues.
Their conversation will explore what deeper transformation the environmental crisis demands of us, including concerns for the future of Democracy .
The conversation will be moderated by Nicolas Prevelakis, associate Director of Curriculum Development, Center for Hellenic Studies at Harvard University.
