When the law is not enough to protect democracy

Democracy cannot be sustained by legal authority alone, the evening’s honoree Supreme Court of Canada Justice Andromache Karakatsanis warned in Toronto, arguing that laws must serve justice, and citizens must defend the institutions that hold power accountable.
