Deposits data twisted into a political soundbite

The data cited by Greek Left Alliance (ELAS) president and former prime minister Alexis Tsipras in Thessaloniki about the structure of the Greeks’ deposits was real. The 2025 report by the Deposit and Investment Guarantee Fund (TEKE) did say that 0.9% of Greece’s 31.7 million depositors have amounts of more than €100,000 in their accounts.
