Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis posted a sharp statement on X Friday blaming the ongoing unrest in France on what he called a mix of multi-generational migrants and their far-left allies, saying they are destroying and humiliating the country.
Georgiadis said the historic Limoges City Hall was burned to the ground by hooded far-left rioters, calling it a tragedy. He expressed genuine sorrow over the state of France, writing that the country he once knew no longer exists.
The minister also warned that financial markets will now target France even harder because of the chaos, adding that a country doesn't need much to fall. He tied the situation to Greek domestic politics, cautioning those at home who invest in political instability and chaos to take a good look at what is happening in France.
Georgiadis closed by saying Europe without France is unthinkable and called on people to pray for France to escape what he described as its current decline. His comments came as riots have been ongoing for several days across the country, with significant property damage reported.
The remarks are likely to generate political pushback in Greece, where immigration and public order have been flashpoint issues ahead of the next election cycle. Georgiadis is one of the more outspoken ministers in the ruling New Democracy government.
