Greece is pulling ahead of traditional European rivals as the preferred destination for high-end destination weddings, according to Greek Destination Planners, a leading event coordination body. The trend is being driven by couples seeking more personalized, experience-centered ceremonies that combine the wedding with the honeymoon travel. Board member Vaso Vandali made the comments in a televised interview with Naftemporiki this week.
Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete remain the most frequently chosen regions, though planners say demand is spreading to lesser-known locations across the Aegean and Ionian islands. The shift reflects a broader global movement away from traditional ballroom weddings toward outdoor, scenery-driven events with customized programming.
Greece's combination of ancient backdrops, Mediterranean climate, and growing luxury hospitality infrastructure has made it increasingly competitive against long-dominant rivals like Tuscany and the French Riviera. Wedding tourism now contributes meaningfully to the country's high-spend visitor segment, with parties often flying in guests from multiple countries.
