Devlet Bahceli, leader of Turkey's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Erdogan's coalition partner, declared that the days of Turkey "tolerating provocations" in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean are finished. Speaking with sharp nationalist rhetoric, he called Greece's actions those of "spoiled children" and framed Turkey as the new dominant power in the region.
"The days when the provocations of spoiled children in the Sea of Islands and the Eastern Mediterranean against the Republic of Turkey were applauded have passed," Bahceli said. He added that Turkey is now "the chief architect of the Turkish century."
Bahceli specifically invoked Ottoman naval history, citing Rhodes, Cyprus, Crete, and Preveza as proof of Turkey's historic maritime dominance. He also referenced the Greek landing in Smyrna in 1919, claiming that period proved "the Turkish nation was destined to be confined to Anatolia," a direct dismissal of Greek territorial ambitions during that era.
The MHP leader gave a heavy emphasis to Turkey's domestic weapons programs, naming the KAAN fighter jet, KIZILELMA drone, AKINCI, AKSUNGUR, and GÖKBEY as proof of Turkish air superiority. He framed these as tools to enforce what he called Turkey's "absolute sovereignty" in the skies.
Bahceli closed with a strong endorsement of the "Blue Homeland" doctrine, the expansive Turkish maritime claim covering large portions of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean. He described cities including Sinop, Trabzon, Crimea, Preveza, Cyprus, and Smyrna as historical markers in a continuous drive for Turkish naval dominance, saying Turkey's ports, shipyards, and navy together form "an unbreakable front of national sovereignty."
The remarks follow a pattern of escalating nationalist statements from Bahceli, who regularly uses Aegean and Cyprus references to signal Turkey's rejection of Greek and Cypriot territorial claims.
