A prosecutor has ordered a criminal investigation after a private helicopter landed on Sarakiniko beach in Milos, one of the most photographed beaches in Greece. The Syros prosecutor directed local police to gather preliminary evidence and determine whether criminal charges should be filed against those involved. The incident was caught on video by a local businessman. According to reports, after touching down on the famous white volcanic shoreline, the helicopter's owner stepped out with his group to go for a swim. Greece's Civil Aviation Authority is running a parallel investigation. The CAA confirmed it is collecting and reviewing all available evidence to assess whether the pilot and owner complied with flight regulations, operational requirements, and proper landing procedures. As part of the administrative process, both the pilot and the helicopter's owner will be required to provide explanations before the authority takes any further action. The case also prompted the CAA to accelerate work on updating Presidential Decree 19/2009, which governs helicopter transport operations. Particular emphasis, according to CAA sources, will be placed on flight safety, protection of human life, and the safeguarding of protected natural areas, including Natura 2000 sites.
