A 26-year-old Afghan national has been arrested in Athens and has admitted to placing the body of Scottish volunteer Elisabeth-Jane Ross inside a suitcase and transporting it to an abandoned car park in the Kypseli district of the city. Greek police confirmed he faces charges of intentional homicide, robbery, and weapons law violations. Ross, 38, known as Lisa, had been volunteering in Athens for seven years with the One Heart organisation, which provides medical support to refugees, many of them Afghan and Iranian nationals. She had met the suspect through that same humanitarian work. Her remains were discovered by a homeless man on July 18, three days after she told friends she was heading to Kypseli to visit some Americans she knew. After the killing, the suspect used her bank cards to withdraw cash over several days. In what police describe as an attempt to conceal her death, he also sent texts from her phone and posted on her Facebook page to make it appear she was still alive. A message sent to a Greek friend on July 15 said she needed some time alone and was heading to a Greek island. Her father in Edinburgh received similar messages from July 15 through July 29. CCTV footage captured a man dragging the suitcase to the abandoned car park, and fingerprint evidence was found on it. When police searched the suspect's residence, they seized a replica pistol and a knife. He was brought in on July 30 and confessed. Ross had arrived in Greece on June 26 and was staying with Greek friends outside Athens at the time of her death.
