Greek authorities arrested an Egyptian national in central Athens on Saturday after he was caught carrying a live grenade, according to Skai. The man had been under surveillance for some time, with police believing he was preparing to carry out an attack on the home of Isidoros Dogiakos, the former Prosecutor of the Supreme Court. Police from Greece's Organized Crime division had already warned Dogiakos that an attack on his residence was imminent, and he and his family were moved out of the area before the operation went ahead. Heavy OPKE special forces units were stationed in the neighborhood as the operation unfolded. Officers tracked the suspect to a house in Athens' southern suburbs, where he had picked up the grenade from an accomplice. He was apprehended, handcuffed, and the weapon was seized before he could use it. Three people total were arrested: the Egyptian national who was to carry out the attack, his accomplice in the southern suburbs, and the alleged mastermind, who is currently held in Diavata prison. According to ERTnews, the prisoner at Diavata was the one who gave the order for the attack. Investigators say he had instructed the suspect to throw the grenade even if police were guarding Dogiakos' home, with the deliberate goal of causing casualties from the blast. The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are still working to establish the motive, the precise target of the plot, and whether anyone else was involved in planning the attack.
