An Israeli-Turkish woman was surrounded and harassed by roughly 25 pro-Palestinian activists while shopping at Istanbul's Istinye Park mall on Sunday, with mall security eventually forcing her out of the building to escape the crowd.
Claudia Medina Halfon, who holds both Israeli and Turkish citizenship and works in medical tourism coordinating procedures in Turkey for Israeli patients, had been targeted in advance on Turkish social media. Anti-Israel groups, including one calling itself "Fatah October 7," had posted about her in the days before the incident, accusing her of assisting IDF soldiers and filing criminal complaints with Turkish authorities in an attempt to have her arrested or deported.
When the group spotted her at the mall, they surrounded her, filmed her from close range, and waved Turkish and Palestinian flags. Chants heard in footage from the scene included "Down with Zionism," "We don't want Zionists in our country," and calls labeling her a "terrorist" and "child killer."
Security guards at the mall intervened and pushed back protesters who refused to move, physically backing Halfon into a corner before escorting her out of the complex. Videos circulating from the scene show her surrounded by dozens of people shouting at her as she attempts to move away, with separate footage showing physical confrontations between security and protesters.
The incident drew significant attention online, with the footage spreading widely across social media platforms. Halfon had previously been publicly named and targeted by activist accounts in Turkey due to her role facilitating Israeli medical tourism in the country.
