A woman is dead after a coordinated arson attack on three homes belonging to members of Greece's ruling New Democracy party in Thessaloniki early Wednesday morning. The victim, Vagia Nestora, was the mother of New Democracy candidate Afroditi Nestora, whose apartment building was one of three targeted by attackers using incendiary devices. Afroditi Nestora is hospitalized at Ippokrateio Hospital in Thessaloniki with first and second-degree burns across large areas of her body, along with respiratory burns and damage to her vocal cords. She is listed in stable condition. Her father, Panagiotis Nestoras, is also hospitalized in stable condition in the pulmonary ward and is expected to be discharged soon. Greece's counter-terrorism unit has launched a full manhunt. Security camera footage has already identified three suspects: two who arrived on a motorcycle and a third who served as a lookout. Investigators are moving to lift phone records and are taking witness statements to piece together the full picture. According to Vasilis Lambropoulos, the police correspondent for To Vima and Ta Nea, the investigation is focusing on an active anti-authority cell based in Thessaloniki. Similar gasoline bomb attacks have been carried out in the area before, pointing investigators toward known extremist networks. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis responded directly, calling Vagia Nestora's death confirmation of the "murderous and inhuman character of blind violence in public life." He said no one can remain inactive or limit themselves to hollow condemnations, adding that Greece will never return to the divisions of the past. Two other residents of one of the targeted apartment buildings received treatment for smoke inhalation and are expected to be discharged shortly. #Thessaloniki #Greece #GreekPolitics
