A bar in Athens just became the best in Europe. Line, located in a former art gallery in the Petralona neighborhood, won the top spot at the inaugural Europe's 50 Best Bars 2026 ceremony held in Amsterdam on June 30, taking both the Best Bar in Europe and Best Bar in Greece titles.
The list is newly independent from the World's 50 Best Bars rankings, making this the first European number one ever awarded. Line was not an unknown contender heading in, having already ranked No. 8 in the World's 50 Best Bars 2025. Its founders, Vasilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoules, built the venue around fermentation, in-house production, and circular use of ingredients.
Greece placed six bars in the top 50 overall, an unprecedented showing for any single country on the list's debut. Athens landed four of those six spots, with The Bar in Front of the Bar at No. 2, Barro Negro at No. 13, Baba Au Rum at No. 14, and The Clumsies at No. 30. Thessaloniki's Gorilla entered at No. 33.
The top 10 was rounded out by Sips in Barcelona at No. 3, Himkok in Oslo at No. 4, Bar Nouveau in Paris at No. 5, Moebius Milano at No. 6, The Cambridge Public House in Paris at No. 7, Mirror Bar in Bratislava at No. 8, Paradiso in Barcelona at No. 9, and Connaught Bar in London at No. 10.
Faye Huggett, director of the Europe's 50 Best Bars community, said the award to Line recognizes both its exceptional hospitality and its creative ambition, while also cementing Athens' position on the global cocktail map.
