Greece and the United States announced a $4 billion military equipment deal on October 7, 2026, following the 6th round of the Greece-U.S. Strategic Dialogue held in Athens. The agreement was reached under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program and is designed to support Greece's long-term defense planning while deepening interoperability between the two countries' armed forces. Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio co-chaired the talks, reaffirming what both sides described as the enduring and deep character of the bilateral relationship, grounded in shared democratic values and Greece's role as an active NATO ally. Beyond the headline arms deal, the two sides finalized Greece's participation in the U.S. National Guard State Partnership Program with the state of Florida and agreed to transfer Stryker armored vehicles to Greece. Both governments also expanded cooperation on law enforcement, counterterrorism, and combating illegal migration. On the economic side, Greece and the U.S. committed to strengthening bilateral trade and investment, with a focus on protecting critical infrastructure and tightening investment screening processes. Greece's participation in the Pax Silica initiative was highlighted, covering super-intelligence, high-performance computing, and cybersecurity cooperation. Energy was also on the table. Both sides pointed to the momentum built from the November 2025 P-TEC ministerial meeting, with discussions covering the Vertical Gas Corridor and hydrocarbon exploration. A new agreement was signed certifying American sailors on Greek-flagged vessels. The two governments also renewed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Cultural Heritage, targeting the protection of antiquities and the dismantling of illegal trafficking networks. The first U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation project in Greece was announced as part of the same session. #Greece #NATO #GreekDefense
