At least 50 Greek-American candidates are on the ballot in Tuesday's midterm elections, spread across 20 states and competing for seats ranging from Congress to state legislatures, county offices, and judicial posts. Both Republicans and Democrats are represented, making this one of the largest concentrations of Greek-American political activity in recent memory. The race drawing the most attention is New Hampshire's open Senate seat, where four-term Democratic Congressman Chris Pappas is running against former Republican Senator John Sununu. A Pappas victory would make him the first Greek American elected to the Senate since Olympia Snowe, who left office in January 2013, more than 13 years ago. A Saint Anselm College poll taken October 19-20 put Pappas at 50 percent to Sununu's 43, and the RealClearPolling average for the previous five weeks showed a nearly identical gap. Pappas has co-chaired the Congressional Hellenic Caucus and has been among the most active voices in Washington on Greece-Cyprus issues, including his opposition to Turkey rejoining the F-35 program while Ankara continues to hold Russian-made S-400 missile systems. Sununu himself carries distant Greek ancestry, with his grandmother Victoria Dada born in El Salvador to a Greek mother, a connection his father acknowledged publicly back in 1988. Six Greek-American House incumbents are also seeking additional terms. Florida alone accounts for three: Gus Bilirakis in the 12th District, Mike Haridopolos in the Eighth, and Jimmy Patronis in the First. Nicole Malliotakis is defending her Staten Island-based seat in New York's 11th District, Dina Titus is running in Nevada's First, and Maggie Goodlander is in a 2024 rematch in New Hampshire's Second. Beyond Congress, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is seeking reelection while simultaneously preparing a Chicago mayoral run set for February 23, 2027. California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis is running for state treasurer. In Pennsylvania's 53rd District, both candidates, Steven Malagari and Yanni Lambros, are of Greek descent. Congressional winners are seated in January 2027. #GreekAmerican #Midterms2026 #Greeks
